The Catena Zapata winery, with the La Marchigiana series, celebrates the traditional way of winemaking and is dedicated to the methods inherited from Nicola Catena's ancestors. If you've tried about 10 or more Argentinian Malbecs and now you're thinking, ok this is one more, you have to believe us that we're talking about something completely different here. The ideal marriage of New and Old World, in a unique Malbec that you have to try!
The history of the winery goes back to 1898 when Nicola Catena from Le Marche, Italy, settled in Mendoza, Argentina with the intention of making it big and he succeeded. In 1902 he founded Catena Zapata and stood out for the way he highlighted the exceptional terroirs of the very high altitudes, at the foot of the Andes. There he discovered that the average temperature and the environmental conditions created the perfect ripening of the grapes, while he cultivated each vineyard separately, to fully highlight the authentic expression of the fruit.
In the La Marchigiana project, he combines the traditional manual harvesting and natural vinification of the Marche, with fermentation in clay containers with indigenous yeasts, which were practiced in Cuyo, Argentina. The Malbec comes from the Gualtallary vineyards, where it is cultivated with organic and biodynamic practices and after fermentation, which lasts 14 days, it remains for 4 months in amphorae and is bottled without sulfates. The result is pure juicy fruit, structure, complexity, and delightful freshness!
Try it while you still have time!
