Why do we love it?

What wine can result from the combination of the classic Bordeaux Blend and the "golden" wine-producing region of the Southern Hemisphere? If you are wondering, you must try The Blend 2021 of the Gabriëlskloof winery now. In addition to being incredibly elegant, it is also an incredibly value-for-money option!

The Gabriëlskloof winery, next to the Bot River in South Africa, has been in the sights of ours and many wine lovers around the world. South African businessman Bernhard Heyns, had been searching for the ideal spot for his vineyard for years and finally, fate led them to a wheat and sheep farm. In 2001, he bought a piece of land and timidly began to cultivate the now-recognized vineyards of the Gabriëlskloof winery. The name was given in honor of his father, Gabriel. Faithful to sustainable winemaking practices, excellent architecture, pest control, and responsible water management, it minimizes its ecological footprint and becomes a model for preserving soil quality for future generations.

The Atlantic breeze and the diversity of the soil, yield rich and excellent-quality fruits. 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 5% Malbec are placed in stainless steel tanks and fermented by gravity, and then transferred to old French barrels for 1.5 years. The result has dense fruit and very balanced acidity that forces you to consume it on a daily basis.

Its price also allows for it and more!

THE BLEND 2021 - GABRIELSKLOOF WINES

PAIR IT

Try it with oven-roasted lamb, grilled meats, meat pie, and game with red wine sauces.

Beef stew with red wine

  • 1 kg of boneless beef cut into bits
  • 4 tbsps. flour
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tbsps. olive oil
  • 1 cup of dry red wine
  • 1 cube beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp. dry thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 pack of small fresh mushrooms, whole
  • baby carrots
  • salt
  • pepper

Wipe the meat with kitchen paper to absorb excess moisture. Stir in a bowl 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, paprika and pepper and sprinkle the meat with the flour mixture.

Sautee the meat in hot olive oil in moderate to strong heat, stirring frequently,  for 4-6 minutes or until it acquires a golden brown color. Remove the meat from the pot. Add the red wine, stirring well to incorporate with the meat residues from the bottom of the pot.

Put the meat back in the pot and add the broth, thyme, bay leaf, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Once it starts boiling, cover the pot, lower the heat in half and allow the meat to cook for about an hour, stirring occasionally. You can accompany your meat with wild rice.
