Liatiko is a local Cretan variety, whith its name derivingfrom the month of harvest wich is July (Ioulios). It is a red variety that gives elegant dry red wines, but is best known for its excellent results in sweet wines.
The relationship of Iouliatko or Liatiko with growers of Crete is lost in depth of time. Evolution of sweet "Malvasia"- type wines, Liatiko was produced and marketed by the Cretans from the Byzantine years. Over the years the winemaking techniques evolved, were tested, improved and gave a sweet, dessert wine which conquered the island.
In one of the best versions and one of the most impressive bottles, the Liatiko 2005 from Idea Winery impresses wherever it appears and gets a lot of distinctions! After being sun dried for a few days, the concentrated juice stays in oak barrels for 3 years, getting all the complexity and smoky character it needs. Enjoy it iced (8-10oC) as an aperitif or have it cool (15οC) as a desert. Prepare for an experience!
