An iconic house with a long and very interesting history, it became one of the biggest brand names in the world and created labels easily recognizable by everyone. Behind Veuve Clicquot is a huge collection of legendary wines, 11 Cellar Masters, and a woman, who laid the foundations for champagne production worldwide!
Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin was the daughter of a textile worker, who married young but had the misfortune of being widowed at the age of 27. However, with stubbornness and spirit, she did not give up and decided to completely take over her father-in-law's company, which had been established since 1772. Contrary to the era, that removed women from the business sector, she not only dared to oppose it, but she also created tremendous innovations that defined how champagne is produced worldwide! It is of great interest that she was the one who invented the first remuage table (it is the system where the champagnes are placed and rotated so that the sediment collects in the neck of the bottle which will be removed before the bottle is corked)! But apart from that, she was the one who created the first vintage champagne and the first rosé champagne from a blend of varieties!
With all these firsts under her belt, the path was one-way. Her name became a huge brand name and she traveled all over the world, while everyone called her "la grande dame of Champagne" (the great lady of champagne!).
Yellow Label Brut is the best-known label of the house, with the varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, collected from around 60 different Crus of the region. The grapes are lightly pressed and only the forage is used. After the addition of the liqueur de tirage, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle where it remains with the lees for 36 months and acquires a full-bodied, richly aromatic, with a rare balance and elegance.
After all, the house of Veuve Clicquot, throughout the years of operation, marches with a beacon of only one thing "There is only one quality, the best!"
