Glenallachie is a single malt whiskey distillery in Aberlour, Speyside, founded in 1967, producing mainly blended whiskies.
GlenAllachie 10 YO Cask Strength Batch 8, matured for 10 years in a combination of different casks, selected by the magical hand of Billy Walker. After 50 years of experience in blended whiskey, he is considered a legend of the genre, and the choice of barrels is not random at all, since he has long studied the elements that will work perfectly with the whiskey and give admirable results. In this case, he used Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, Oloroso sherry casks, Virgin oak, and Rioja red wine casks. Distillation stopped at 57.2 alcoholic degrees, without chill filtering and adding caramel color. As expected, each batch shows different characteristics depending on which barrel it is most influenced by, with 7 and 8 being our number one picks.
In the glass, it's shimmery copper. On the nose, it has aromas of sherry with strong vanilla. Intense oak aromas from Virgin Oak barrels, honey, dark chocolate, raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg. In the mouth, it is exuberant and spicy. A harmonious balance between dried fruit, dark chocolate, grape spoon dessert, vanilla, and oak. Long and spicy aftertaste.
