Why do we love it?

The shy Peloponnese variety Kydonitsa is considered to be its rising star and comes from the Zacharias winery. Kydonitsa 2023 Zacharias is exactly what you expect from its name. Quince and other stone fruits cannot be hidden from your nose. Oiliness floods your palette. If you haven't appreciated it yet, we tell you that in the coming years you will see it everywhere.

The Zacharias family has a long tradition in wine and since 2002, when the winery was created in Nemea, it has not stopped evolving and modernizing according to the new trends of the time. They grow various local varieties, of course Agiorgitiko and the rarer Sklava. They have around 400 acres spread across Nemea and Mantinea with each vineyard receiving a different treatment. The vineyards of Kydonitsa spread around the village of Leontio, which is the village of origin of the Zacharias family.

Of course they didn't let the rising star escape them.

Tastes Like

There is lemon in the glass. On the nose you will find stone fruits stand out first, such as quince, peach and apricot and hints of green fruits such as pear.

It has a moderately oily mouth but also cool with nice acidity with the white fleshed peach again dominating and some citrus appearing.

Medium and fruity aftertaste.

PAIR IT

Pair it with salads, white cheese and chicken dishes in the oven.

Tabbouleh salad

  • 1 cup of couscous
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • juice of a lemon
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 cup of chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander
  • 2 tbsps chopped fresh mint
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, cut into cubes
  • 3 fresh onions, finely chopped

Heat water, after salting it first,  in a medium-sized pot and leave it to boil. Add the couscous and leave to moderate heat for 7 to 8 minutes. Drain the couscous and let it cool down. In the meantime, in a small bowl, mix lemon juice with olive oil. Add salt and pepper.

In a large bowl, mix couscous, parsley, coriander, mint, tomatoes and onions. Add the mixture of lemon juice and olive oil and salt and pepper. Leave it for about 20 minutes before serving to marinate.
