SORRY GUYS, WE RAN OUT OF THIS ONE

94 pts from Robert Parker and Silver Medal at Decanter for the incredible Santorini with the backbone of a Great Riesling!

Why do we love it?

Santorini Louroi Platia Artemis Karamolegos Winery is an incredible expression of Santorini’s Assyrtiko, more reminiscent of a Grosses Gewachs Kabinett Riesling than the strict, hard-core Santorini wines we are used to! Its ethereal nature, with its crystalline acidity and rich fruit enchanted both Robert Parker who rated it 94 pts and Decanter who gave it a Silver Medal!

The Winery of Artemis Karamolegos is one of the oldest on the island and deals with some of the oldest vines in Santorini and Europe. Specifically, Santorini Louroi Platia comes from a single vineyard in Pyrgos, with vineyards aged over 150 years old. These vines have hardened due to drought, strong winds, and the Cycladic sun and give very few but over-concentrated grapes.

The wine ferments and matures in stainless steel tanks, with its fine wine lees for 11 months. The wine is then bottled and left to age for one year in the bottle. The 2017 vintage was released in just 1900 bottles and is really a wine that is worth trying and having in your collection for the next decade!

Santorini Louroi Platia Artemis Karamolegos Winery can accompany complex and special dishes but with the right glass and the right company, it is magical even on its own!

Tastes Like

Santorini Louroi Platia Artemis Karamolegos Winery has pale lemon-green color and a shockingly impressive nose full of aromas of bergamot, citron, lime, pear, white peach, honeysuckle, orange blossom, and chrysanthemum. Hints of wet stone, flint, and dough complete the wonderful set.

On the palate, it has a rich, full-body, crisp acidity, a hint of sweetness, and an oily texture. Juicy, ripe fruits such as peach, lemon, lime, grapefruit, citron, orange, honeycomb, brioche dough, lemon blossom, and intense mineral character impress in every sip.

LOUROI PLATIA SANTORINI 2017 - ARTEMIS KARAMOLEGOS WINERY

PAIR IT

with chicken fillet with mango, ginger, lime, and coconut milk, with spaghetti olio, aglio e peperoncino with shrimp, or steamed crayfish with butter and lemon.

Spaghetti with shrimps, lemon and fennel

1 pack of spaghetti No6, whole-wheat
800 gr. shrimps
2 lemons
5-6 cloves of garlic
1 little bunch of fennel
ground pepper
sea salt
chili flakes
olive oil

Carefully peel and cut the shrimps’ heads. Place them in a pot with 300ml water and boil them, along with 3 cloves of garlic for 15 minutes. Then, filter the broth with a sieve, by pressing it well and keeping it warm.

At the same time, boil the spaghetti in salted water and cook them “al dente”. Take the lemon zest and chop the fennel.

In a large pan, pour 20 ml olive oil and the rest of the garlic. Once the olive oil is warm enough, remove the garlic and add the chili flakes.

Place the peeled, boiled shrimps in the hot pan and leave them for 1-2 minutes on each side. Season with salt and pepper, add a little fennel, a bit of lemon zest and pour in the lemon juice.

Remove the shrimps and in the same pan, place the spaghetti directly from the pot and increase the temperature. Add the broth you have prepared and mix well.

When the spaghetti have absorbed all the broth, sprinkle with fennel, pepper and the remaining zest. Serve the spaghetti with shrimp immediately.
