Why do we love it?
Sancerre Domaine du Nozay is probably one of the most epic Sauvignon Blanc we've ever tasted and we are really excited about this wine! This may be due to several reasons, such as the full of fossils soil, the fantastic terroir, and the mild natural vinification.
Domaine du Nozay is located in the Loire Valley, home to Sauvignon blanc, in the village of Sainte Gemme, in the northern part of Sancerre. The winery is housed in a beautiful 17th-century building, and in 1971 Philippe de Benoist and his wife, Marie-Hélène, planted around it the first Sauvignon vines. Their good work started to show early and so the distinctions followed. Their son, Cyril, had loved wine from an early age, working with his uncle, Marie-Hélène's older brother, Aubert de Villaine, co-manager of the legendary Domaine de la Romanee Conti (!!!!!!). Having gathered knowledge and experience from the best, Cyril returned to Sancerre.
They have turned to biodynamic cultivation since 2011, wanting to protect their place and the microclimate of the area. In recent years they have gone one step further and are making natural wines, without the addition of sulfites, chemicals, and commercial yeasts. For the incredible Sancerre of Domaine du Nozay, the grapes are picked by hand and then fermented in both stainless-steel tanks and clay amphoras, with indigenous yeasts. When fermentation and maturation are complete, the wine is bottled unfiltered and is ready to win over even the most demanding palates.
If you love Sauvignon Blanc, you will fall in love with Sancerre Domaine du Nozay!
