Santa Thecla 2022, has captured a piece of our heart and settled there for good. The white blend comes from the Santa Thecla vineyards, the most picturesque and natural Cycladic balcony, overlooking the sea. From the very first sip, the aromas will fascinate you, while in the second you will already be there next to the wave, with the breeze bringing you scents from the fairytale botanical garden of Serifos.
The Santa Thecla Vineyards are located in the Sklavogianni area, in a very steep part of the island, while the age of the vines is controversial. They are considered almost ancient, with most of them producing grapes since 1837. The privately owned estates which are now, as of 2016, vineyards have been a place of cultivation of grain, figs, and the resting ground of productive animals. The subsoil as well as the wild meltemia wind, due to the slope of the area, almost eliminated the possibility of diseases in the plants, resulting in the minimal use of pesticides. As you understand, of course, all the work in the vineyard is done exclusively by hand, since the architecture of the vine does not allow the use of machines.
For Santa Thecla, seven different varieties, native and non-native, became a very rare blend, resulting in a very special and perfectly indicative of the richness of the region, wine. 60% consists of Serifiotiko, followed by Aidani, Assyrtiko, Kountoura, Tsambato, and a very small percentage of Kerino and Psarosyriko. The vinification took place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness of the aromas, while before bottling, it remained with the lees for about 7 months, creating a subtly creamy effect.
Santa Thecla was released in a very limited number of bottles, which are available in very specific places. Some of them are beautiful fish tavernas on neighboring islands, but until summer comes and you can visit them, we managed to find you some. Move fast while you still have time.
