He’ve tasted white Potamissi in the past and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. But that was valid before we tasted Aspro Potamissi Xydakis Microwinery. We were so impressed by its complexity, balance and good structure, that we were freed from any preconception.
This year, prepare for even greater things, because Potamisi 2019 Xydakis Microwinery came altered, improved and in its best version! The only that remained stable in the equation is the tiny annual production…
Yiorgos Xydakis, dentist in the profession, tasted, for the first time, a sweet wine from sun-dried Kountoura grapes, in 1966, from his winegrower grandfather. That was enough for him to fall in love with wine and local grape varieties. Xydakis Microwinery was founded in 2001 and it included an old vineyard with native Cycladic grape varieties with which he engaged as an amateur and bottled wines for friends and wine connoisseurs. His philosophy is based on wines from old vines, mainly from Mykonos but also from the surrounding islands too, with minimal interventions and indigenous yeasts.
Potamissi 2019 is no exception. Contrary to the previous vintage, Potamissi 2019 has a very different character, more orange - like. The reason for this change was the emergence of the unique character of the variety. It remained for 8 months in contact with its fine lees and then it was bottled unfiltered, capturing the exuberant aromas and flavors reminiscent of a Cycladic island.
As you can imagine, we are talking about minimal bottles which are usually monopolized by restaurateurs and collectors.
Fortunately, we’ve reserved for some bottles. They are very few, so hurry up!
