Why do we love it?

Pour yourself a glass of Crasto Superior Tinto 2021, close your eyes, and sip! You are automatically transported to the Douro, enjoying the dreamy vineyards and tasting the freshest and most delicious combination of red fruits and flowers. This wine is a pure delight and the 2021 vintage is considered the top for the region!

Quinta do Crasto is located in a privileged spot in the demarcated Douro region in Northern Portugal, and has been in the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for more than a century. Like all other great Douro estates, Quinta do Crasto dates back far to antiquity and is said to have been producing wine since 1615! The name is Crasto comes from the Latin castrum, which means “Roman fortress”. Today it has 74 hectares of exemplary vineyards, such as Vinha Maria Teresa, Vinha dos Cardanhos de Cima, and Vinha da Ponte, which offer wines of unique quality and character. It produces white and red Douro wines, premium Port wines, and extra virgin olive oils, which attract the attention of wine critics every year like a magnet, while it is included in the World's Best Vineyards list, holding first place in Portugal.

Crasto Superior Tinto 2021 comes from a blend of the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and Sousao varieties, from the privately owned vineyards of Quinta da Cabreira at 150 to 250m altitude. The percentages change each year depending on the best maturation that their NE orientation gives to each one. The fermentation in a stainless steel tank preserves the aromas, while the 12-month stay in French oak barrels gives the necessary vanilla aromas that make it burst with flavor.

Know that Crasto Superior Tinto 2021 is one of those that you will not get enough of consuming. At the table, it will make you look white-faced, but the possibility of drinking a bottle just like that is huge, so for better or worse, put 2 3 in your cart.

In the glass, its color is medium ruby. On the nose, it is very expressive with red and black fruits dominating. A perfectly harmonious combination of black cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, plum, blueberry, violet, anise, licorice, vanilla, and cinnamon.

In the mouth, it is medium (+), excellently structured and silky tannins. The cool acidity gives even more freshness. Black cherry, sour cherry, ripe strawberry, licorice, tobacco, vanilla, and a subtle herbal note remain in the mouth in a long-lasting aftertaste.

PAIR IT

with grilled red meats, country sausage, aged yellow cheeses

Beef stew with tomato sauce and pasta

For the stew

  • 1 kg beef
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 glass of red wine
  • 1 tbsp. of tomato paste
  • 1 kg fresh tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 potato (whole)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 grains of allspice
  • 1 glass of boiling water
  • Salt
  • Pepper

For pasta

  • 1 pack of spaghetti
  • grated Parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon of butter

Wash the meat well, cut into large pieces and season well.

Saute the meat in some olive oil until it gets an even color, and turn it regularly to keep it from sticking.Once it’s evenly browned, add the red wine in the pan.

Add onion, tomato paste, fresh tomatoes and a whole potato (to help the sauce thickens).Add a teaspoon of sugar (to lower the acidity of the sauce), salt according to preference, 2 berries of allspice, cinnamon stick and a glass of boiling water.

Cover the casserole (leaving a small opening to breathe), let it simmer, and stir occasionaly. If the sauce is over reduced until the meat is cooked, add a little more water. after that remove the meat from the pot and place it on a platter. Put the sauce (along with the potato) in a blender, to make it velvety and then, return it to the pan. Bring it back to boil along with the meat until it is tender.

Shortly before the meal is done, boil the spaghetti in salted water according to the package instructions. Season well, add a tablespoon of butter and serve immediately after you sprinkle with grated cheese. Add as much sauce as you want and a piece of meat per serving.
