Why do we love it?

Red on Black from Ktima Mitravela is a very impressive version of Agiorgitiko. A wine that carries all the glory of the PDO Nemea zone, in its freshest and fruitiest version, without a trace of the barrel. You will love it!

The history of the Mitravela estate began in 1828 and is one of the oldest families of Nemea, from the time when the area was called Agios Georgios. The first winery was founded in the center of Nemea in 1913 and since then there has been an exponential increase in the privately owned vineyards and its annual production. Red on Black was born in 2003 and was the first Agiorgitiko PDO Nemea tank wine to be released in Greece. Today, the 5th generation of the family continues to show this different side of the chameleon variety, with a wine that overflows with fruit, and freshness, without a trace of barrel and a series of distinctions in international competitions and exhibitions.

You won't get enough of the Red in Black from the Mitravela Estate. It is fruity, juicy, and very tasty. And the best thing? You will enjoy it in winter and summer since the slightly lower temperature suits it very well!

Tastes Like

In the glass it is purple. Rich aromas of juicy red fruits, mainly cherry, sour cherry, blackcurrant as well as raspberry. Notes of lavender and violet give an additional impressive character.

In the mouth, it has a medium body and cool acidity that adds freshness. The tannins are present but in a very well-crafted and balanced form. The fruit is also intense in the mouth, with cherry and sour cherry taking the lead. Floral hints of lavender, violet, clove, and caramel create a very delicious result. The aftertaste is long and fruity.

The absolute Must is the spaghetti with minced meat, but try it with Mediterranean dishes, or with Vitello Tonnato

Spaghetti with meatballs

  • 1 slice of whole wheat bread, cut into chunks
  • 225 grams of counterfeit
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 portobello mushroom, finely chopped, after removing the stalk
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsps. of fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 large egg white
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Fresh grated nutmeg
  • 2 tbsps. of olive oil
  • 700 g peeled tomatoes in juice, hand-melted
  • 120 ml of beef stock
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil
  • 3 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 225 g spaghetti
  • Parmesan, for serving, optional

Chop the bread into thick breadcrumbs. Place them in a bowl, add minced meat, 3 tablespoons of onion, finely chopped mushroom, 1 tablespoon of garlic, parsley, and egg white. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg. Mix well, until you get a homogeneous mixture. Divide into, approximately,  20 round meatballs and place them on a plate.

Put the pan on moderate heat and heat up some olive oil. Add the rest of the garlic and onion. Cook them for about 10 to 12 minutes by stirring occasionally until they are softened. Mix tomatoes and broth. Add basil and thyme into sprigs so they can be removed afterwards. Let it simmer for 20  minutes, by stirring occasionally. Add the meatballs and simmer, without stirring for about 10 minutes. Turn the meatballs and leave them for another 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions in salted water. Serve the pasta by adding sauce, meatballs and as much parmesan as you like. Sprinkle with chopped parsley.
