Why do we love it?

What would a king be without his queen? Giannis Papargyriou completes the chessboard with his strongest figure and next to the king Le Roi des Montagnes, he finally puts Mavrodaphni in the position that suits her. That of the queen!

This "forbidden" fruit has always been the bone of contention for Giannis Papargyriou. The fact that it is not legally allowed to be written on the label caused him to be very involved with it, among many who were skeptical and not to put it down until he made a great wine that would prove its potential. With La Reine des Montagnes Noire, he taught us that this is huge!

Mavrodaphne comes from the vineyards planted in 2016 in Sofiana Corinthia, at an altitude of 850 meters. After the harvest, a 28-day extraction takes place, which gives the wine very rich fruity aromas, while it then ferments in 400-500 liter barrels with native yeasts, to finally be transferred to 1000 liter barrels, where it remains for 12 months. Its concentration, complexity, and aging potential are mouth-watering, but that's exactly what we love about Papargyriou wines!

La Reine des Montagnes Noire, is the perfect evolution of The Black Daphne, which will replace and play the real role of a queen in a battle, she always has the last word and is the most decisive!

Tastes Like

In the glass, it is deep purple. Rich aromas of cherry, strawberry jam, sour cherry, raspberry, blueberry, anise, cinnamon, and vanilla with soft notes of eucalyptus, violet, and chocolate.

In the mouth, it has strength and undiminished complexity. Rich with moderate well-worked tannins and cool acidity. Cherry jam, chocolate, cigar, nutmeg, vanilla, pepper, and lavender, create a complex and intense velvety aftertaste.

Pair it with veal bourguignon, traditional Kefalonian meat pie, burger with BBQ sauce, or spaghetti with meatballs and red sauce.

Kebabs with yogurt sauce

for kebabs

  • 300 gr. ground beef
  • 300 gr. ground lamb
  • 1 tsp. tomato paste
  • 5 tbsps. of milk
  • ½ cube of beef stock
  • 1½ tbsp. of butter (preferably sheep)
  • 1 tbsp. lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp. of pine nuts
  • 1 ¼ tsp. of cumin
  • ½ tsp. of smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp. of allspice
  • ½ tsp. of dry coriander
  • ¼ tsp. of cinnamon
  • Black pepper

 

for the sauce

  • 1½ tbsp of tomato paste
  • 350 gr. concassed tomatoes
  • ½ cube of beef stock
  • 250 ml. water, tepid
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tbsp. of sugar
  • Chili flakes optional
  • Thyme
  • Cumin
  • Red pepper
  • Olive oil

You will also need

  • Yogurt
  • Fresh coriander, parsley or mint
  • Pitta bread

Put all spices, zest and pine nuts on the mortar and shred them. In a bowl add the tomato paste, the spices and the melted butter. In the milk, dissolve ¼ of the beef stock cube, mix and add to the mixture. After kneading for 5 to 7 minutes, we make kebabs in the corresponding shape. Put the kebabs in the refrigerator and leave for 1 hour. In a frying pan, mix all the ingredients of the sauce together and simmer until it thickens. Roast the kebabs and pitta breads on a charcoal grill or in the oven. After the kebabs are cooked, put them on the pitta breads by adding plenty of sauce, yogurt and chili flakes, preferably!
