Why do we love it?
Syrah Domaine Florian can take any comparison to the best Greek Syrahs you have tried so far. It is one of those that will make whoever tries it ask “who makes this epic wine?” And then you will say to them how a former banker from Luxembourg makes this Syrah and other sublime wines, in Thessaloniki and a great and interesting story will begin…
Gerd was born and raised in his grandfather's winery in Rhineland Palatinate, Riesling's paradise. He took his first steps in the vineyard but growing up he chose another path. If you fall in love with wine from such a young age, you can hardly forget it. This love and the memories from the vines led him, in 2004, to buy a small piece of land in Trilofo, where the winery is now located, and to plant his first vines. Today the vineyard is 75 acres and Gerd has at his side his son, Florian. Florian grew up in the vineyard, like his father, and he loved it so much that he could not imagine doing anything else in his life. He studied oenology at the University of Vienna and now along with his father, they make some of the most delicious wines of Northern Greece.
Syrah is their pride. The grapes for Syrah come from a small vineyard, just outside Veroia, at an altitude of 500 meters. The strictly biological and biodynamic cultivation and the exploitation of the ideal conditions of the area give the perfect fruit. The precious juice that is collected without pressing, matures for 18 months in moderately burned oak barrels, from the forests of Rodopi.
Syrah Domaine Florian is one of the red wines that will enchant you with their finesse. It’s one of those that you will love now but with every sip, you will regret that you did not keep them for another ten years.
