We love it for its character. Because each time Idylle d’ Achinos by La Tour Melas reaches our glasses we are enormously overtaken by the way it starts slow and evolves over time.
The secret? Exhaustive diligence in the vineyard. Already by the time of harvest completion they vinegrowers start taking actions to prepare for the next.
Just outside the village Achinos in Fthiotida, Kyros Melas created a winery that has nothing to envy from renowned wineries of France. Sacrificing production for the sake of quality, he and his team make the 100 years old vines reach their limits by limiting their productivity to a minimum. Biodynamic, organic farming, and dense planting harden plants to unprecedented concentration levels with their energy taking care of just a few bunches per vine.
For Idylle d 'Achinos, three varieties equally divided entangled in a large romance from those that are not easy to overcome. Grenache, Syrah, and Agiorgitiko in equal parts are vinified with a very short extraction time adding up to a wine overwhelmed with finesse.
French, Greek, call it what you want. It is really hard to find so much of it concentrated in a glass.
