Mavrodaphne of Patra from the Parparousis Winery, is probably the most easily recognizable bottled wine, with a huge history! This sweet expression of the variety was a milestone wine for the variety and the Parparousis family!
Thanasis Parparousis and his wife Vasso founded the Parparousis Winery in 1974, not knowing that they would go down in wine history as the first to deal with the vinification of the dry and forbidden Mavrodafni. Thanasis was the only producer in Greece, who sacrificed and reduced his production at the altar of quality to make the country's best quality and concentrated wines. After his studies in Dijon, Burgundy, he returned to Patras and applied with great success the well-honed knowledge he received in the "Mecca of wine", resulting in the majority of today's wines being exported to the world's leading markets and figure on the lists of elite restaurants worldwide.
This sweet Mavrodaphni is one of the winery's most iconic labels and arguably the most beloved sweet Greek red wine. It consists of 75% Mavrodafni Patras and 25% Corinthian raisins, from the Kallithea region of Achaia and has been aged for 18 whole years in French oak barrels! The result is a complex aromatic wine, with a perfect balance of sweetness and tannins and an almost indefinite aging time!
Try it with any dark chocolate dessert, chocolate pie with nuts, chocolate trunk with chestnut or biscuit, the beloved carioca treat, or truffles! You will be impressed by the pairing of all rustic cheeses, blue cheese, Roquefort, and stilton.
