Glenallachie is a single malt whiskey distillery in Aberlour, Speyside, founded in 1967, producing mainly blended whiskies.
GlenAllachie 10 YO Cask Strength Batch 7, came for 10 years in a combination of different casks, selected by the magical hand of Billy Walker. After 50 years of experience in blended whiskey, he is considered a legend of the genre, and the choice of barrels is not at all accidental, since he has long studied the elements that will work with the whiskey and give admirable results. In this case, he used Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, Oloroso sherry casks, Virgin oak, and Rioja red wine casks. Distillation was stopped at 56.8 alcoholic degrees, without chill filtering and adding caramel color. As expected, each batch shows different characteristics depending on which barrel it is most influenced by, with 7 and 8 being our number one picks.
In the glass, it's shimmery copper. On the nose, it has rich aromas of butterscotch, vanilla, black and red berries, chocolate, oak, and spices, mainly nutmeg and cinnamon. In the mouth, it initially has a sweet sensation, but then it becomes dry, with flavors of juicy orange and smoky wood, while the tannins are present and reminiscent of red wine. Chocolate, vanilla, and aromas of cooked citrus result in a very rich result.
