Meikle Tòir The Original is the latest release from the popular GlenAllachie distillery in Speyside, a peated single malt Scotch whisky first launched in 2023. It stands out primarily due to the peat used, which originates from the inland region of St. Fergus. This results in a softer, sweeter taste compared to peat typically sourced from coastal areas.
A fermentation period of 160 hours, three times the usual average(!), is required to produce a whisky that is rich and full-bodied. It matures in first-fill bourbon casks, American virgin oak, and rye whisky barrels, leading to incredible complexity and a bold character.
On the nose, aromas of spices, honey, and espresso dominate, with hints of smoked almond, hazelnut, and butterscotch. The palate offers flavors of smoke, chocolate, and honey, complemented by notes of cinnamon and ginger. The finish is long and enjoyable, with slightly salty and earthy undertones.
