Few names stand as high as Gustave Lorentz. Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is a multi-layered wine with an intensely aromatic bouquet, embodying the family's dedication to consistently producing excellence!
The Gustave Lorentz winery was founded in 1836 and since then 7 whole generations have passed through its management. During all these years it faced many difficulties, with phylloxera being one of them, but the battle was not abandoned and so the winery is today one of the most important in the region. The backbone of his wines is based on the absolute expression of the terroir and the variety in relation to the particularities of each year. This also happened in the year 2016, which is considered one of the best in Alsace, with ideal weather conditions throughout the growing season. This allowed the Gewurztraminer grapes to ripen to perfection, resulting in a wine of tremendous balance and complexity.
Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim 2016 is produced from organic grapes grown on the Grand Cru site in Bergheim's Altenberg vineyard. In this vineyard, aged 30-50 years, the soil is clay and limestone and since the end of the 13th century, it has been producing wines of excellent quality. The wine can be consumed immediately, but its structure allows it to age gracefully, further enhancing its complexity.
If you can't keep it in the bottle, order some Thai food and your taste buds will thank you!
