Lagotopos white Michaelides Estate is a very special white wine that combines overripe grapes, oak aging and the marriage of two very contradictory and different varieties, Assyrtiko and Gewurztraminer.
The winery of Iordanis Michaelidis in Agios Athanasios, Drama, deals with both local and foreign varieties, by creating wines with character and quality. Iordanis is the third generation of the family that deals with wine. It all started when his grandfather came as a refugee from Asia Minor and settled in Kyrgia region, in Drama. There he set up the first vineyard of the family. Since 2004, Iordanis has been at the helm of the winery and has taken one step further both the wines and the possibilities of the winery. One of the premium labels of the winery is Lagotopos white.
It is a blend of Assyrtiko and Gewurztraminer, from a single vineyard of 4 acres. The grapes are picked overripe and the wine fermented and matured in French oak barrels for about 6 months. The result is complex and explosively aromatic.
