Why do we love it?
Matassa Blanc is the wine that will make you start drinking natural wines if you don't already. The now world-renowned Domaine Matassa is located in one of the most diverse regions of Southern France, the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Domaine Matassa was created at the foot of the Pyrenees, in Calce, in 2002 by the meeting of two great oenologists, one of the old and one of the new world, who have worked in the most famous wineries in the world! Tom Lubbe and Sam Harrop started with just 1800 bottles and their madness. The winery loves nature and biodynamically cultivates 12 hectares of various local varieties and works with old vineyards, up to 113 years old. Low yields, only spontaneous fermentations, exclusively native yeasts, no or little sulphites if necessary, define the basic character of their wines.
Matassa blanc is a blend of mainly Grenache Gris (70%) and Macabeo (30%), from 95-year-old vineyards. With a cloudy orange-yellow color after remaining for about two weeks on the skins and an amazing nose of citrus, stone fruit and minerality, it ferments and matures in a 2000-liter foudre, acquiring an enviable concentration and balance.
We say it again. This will become your favorite natural wine.
Tastes Like
Lemon color with green highlights. The nose is distinctly fresh and juicy with strong aromas of orange, white peach and apricot, not missing the pear, citrus fruits and the intense mineral aroma of flint on the finish.
It has excellent balance and concentration in the mouth, with high acidity and a fruity character expressed mainly with pear and green apple.
