You might haven’t tried Ribolla again and specifically an "orange" version but we promise you that Marjan Simcic's Ribolla Cru Selection 2021 will open completely new paths for you and you will love both the variety and its world-famous creator.
Let's start from the beginning. In the past, it was believed that Ribolla had some affinity with Robola, but genetic analysis showed that these are two completely different grape varieties. On the other hand, Marjan Simcic is considered one of the leading producers in the region and is the fifth generation of the winery while the family has been involved in wine since 1860. The region is located on the borders of Italy and Slovenia while most of the vineyards are on the Italian side (Collio). The family owns vineyards in both Italian and Slovenian territory, with some vines being over 55 years old. The special soil gives 3 different categories of wines, depending on the soil in which the grapes are grown.
Ribolla Cru Selection 2021 Marjan Simcic comes from opoka soils (slate, sand and marl) and the vines are 50 years old. The wine is fermented with ambient yeasts in large (4000 liters) conical oak barrels and macerates the skins for 8 days. Then, after being separated from the skins, the wine matures there for 18 months, along with its wine lees. It is bottled unfiltered and aged for another 4 months in the bottle. The result will fascinate you with its structure and complexity.
